July 30, 2011 Layton Triathlon

We did it! We packed our bikes in the convertible and headed up to Layton for our triathlon on Friday afternoon. That night we went to our orientation and packet pick up. My parents were so great and watched the kids for us. Then we tuned up our bikes and tried to go to sleep. Neither of us slept well at all. Our brains wouldn't turn off. Example...I was just about to fall asleep and Kyle turns over to me and says "Crystal, when you go to put your socks on in the second transition just put them on inside out, instead of taking the time to turn them right side in."  I had a pretty good laugh at that one.  I didn't care about the extra 5 seconds it would take me to do that.
For those of you who don't already know, the Layton Triathlon is a little different from a normal one.  In this Triathlon you Swim, Bike, Run, Swim, Bike, Run.  Let me explain.  The total swim is 600 yards, the bike is 11 miles, and the run is 3.1 miles.  All of these distances were cut into two parts. So we swam half, biked, half, ran half and then DID IT ALL OVER AGAIN!  Mentally it was hard to get back into the water and feel like you had to start all over again, but once I got onto my bike again, I knew I could do it.

Kyle finished 11 minutes before I did with a time of 1hr 37 minutes. I was 1hr 48 minutes. Instead of a time goal I decided to make a goal to not walk at all and was happy that I was able to keep that goal.  We were both tired but felt so accomplished afterwards and decided that we would like to do at least one of these a year.  It was really nice to have something to work towards when we were working out.  Here are some of our pictures :)  P.S. Kyle got his outfit from the Physical Therapist he volunteers for, he looks so professional.  The doctor is actually 3 inches taller than Kyle :) haha  Mine comes from walmart :)
